This custom residence opens to a private wooded landscape that leads to the water’s edge. Located on an 8-acre lot in Marion Massachusetts, the interconnected nature of life, work, and play inspires the design of this house.
Merging Home with Work and Play
A home office is located between the house and artist’s studio. A four car garage flanks the entry and shares an outdoor courtyard with the the studio. These zones are linked by a light-filled gallery, a hallway for art.
The Geometry is Organic
The building is angled towards views and access. The roof folds organically to shape the spaces below. High clerestory windows admit plentiful natural light above the great room and gallery. The underside of the roof is finished in acoustic wood boards, providing warmth and continuity between spaces.
The studio has a large translucent roof to provide soft natural lighting for working on art projects. There is also a wood shop, finishing area, clean room, and mezzanine.
Inside Extends Out
The living spaces open onto an expansive deck with a vanishing-edge pool. A two-sided fireplace separates the great room from the screen porch. The fireplace hearth extends out to the deck and meets the outdoor kitchen. A ramp with stone walls leads from the house to the water’s edge.
